The Christmas holiday was the occasion of the concert-performance that took place on December 21st (Ignatius Day) in Melrose, MA. Our wonderful students had prepared scenes and songs related to the winter Bulgarian customs and presented them in a unique way to parents and school leadership.
The rich program included winter and folk songs and poems, survakarian callings, mummer dance, performances for Ignatius Day and Christmas. The children had been preparing in recent weeks and succeeded in immersing the audience in the warmth and wisdom of Bulgarian customs.
The President of the school, Mr. Rossen Dimitrov, opened the celebration with a short speech to parents and students. In it, he congratulated all the volunteers for their combined efforts behind the event's skillful organization. He recalled that active and concerned parents are the force that has been standing and stood for all these years behind the administration of the school and without which it cannot exist. He also shared the good news about the successful founding and purchase of a building for a Bulgarian center and school - an event that happened just days before Christmas and which crowned with success several years of efforts by the entire Bulgarian community in New England. Congratulations on this great success!
Mr. Dimitrov introduced teaching assistants who help the learning process go smoothly and contribute to children's development. Most of them are graduates of the school and candidate students at the best universities in the country. Some of them successfully passed the Seal of Biliteracy exam last year - a new initiative by the school - paving the way for generations to come.
A very important guest was able to enjoy and get acquainted with Bulgarian customs. Santa came from a afar and rested on stage, listening and watching intentively. The wonderful Bulgarian rituals related to the nature and well-being of home, family and people, he would remember and refer to other unknown countries.
This Christmas the children gave light and joy and enriched our souls with new and well-forgotten old knowledge. The Christmas guest, in turn, rejoiced them and after the show gave out gifts from the big bag. The children sent him with smiles and good wishes until next year.
The event continued with a delicious holiday dinner for all and a charity raffle that pleased several families with a lucky gift. The most agile twisted horo dance against the backdrop of the Christmas scene, adorned by the active parents of the school.
Big thank you to the children for this concert, for their diligence and for their wonderful performance!
Wishing a healthy and successful New Year to all families and the whole school!
